Dr John Kaunitz
Dr Kaunitz is the principal of ISDE. As a senior IT executive and management consultant he provides thought leadership in the management of IT in major enterprises. He assists Boards, CEO's and senior management to deliver desired business outcomes through innovation, operational excellence and risk management. Working with organisations in financial services, resources, utilities, the media and in the public sector, he has generated a successful track record in strategic IT management, operational business transformation and project management. In executive consulting roles with blue-chip corporations he has developed business-linked IT strategies to streamline business operations and to combine emerging web-based technologies with prevailing IT environments. In senior program management and executive roles he has managed to successful conclusions major organisational change programs involving the transformation of business operations, the development and implementation of customer centric (CRM) information technology strategies, system development, selection and implementation projects and the implementation of business intelligence capabilities. He has also been engaged to unlock key system implementation projects and to help resolve critical operational risks in large scale ATM and EFTPOS networks. His clients include the Defence Materiel Organisation, AMP, the ABC, AusAID, BHP, CBA/EDS, Melbourne Water, Mirvac, NRMA, the Snowy Hydro, TransGrid, and Woolworths. Previously Dr Kaunitz was a senior executive with AMP a leading Australian financial services group. As CIO for AMP General Insurance, he consolidated the IT function, resolved critical issues in business operations, implemented a number of innovative projects, including customer relationship management (CRM) and a data warehouse-based MIS, and significantly reduced IT costs through the proactive management of outsourced services. As Head of IT Planning for the AMP Group, he was instrumental in guiding the strategic management of information technology over fifteen years, dealing with many enterprise-wide challenges and issues. Combining extensive professional background in IT with formal training in management and organisational design, Dr Kaunitz has developed innovative and effective operational/IT strategies to make IT work for organisations, even where traditional IT approaches have failed to generate traction. He provides professional input which integrates key business and technology concepts, solutions and innovations, essential for success in such situations. His approach is to engage business and IT management at all levels, creating a common understanding of IT-related issues and facilitating business and IT working together to develop business-enabling solutions. Educated at the University of Sydney and at Stanford University, where he obtained his PhD, Dr Kaunitz spent a number of years in the US at Stanford and at AT&T Bell Laboratories. More recently he received an MBA from the University of Technology Sydney.
